An Update on Brust Park: A Call to Action for Our Community

Brust Park has always been a vital green space for our Bronx community, a place where neighbors gather, families explore, and nature thrives amidst the bustle of the city. That’s why it saddens me to share that the Stewards of Brust Park have ceased operations.

For years, I volunteered with the Stewards, helping to care for the park and organizing community-building events like Art in the Park, Brust Park Halloween, and the Winter Celebration. These events brought joy, creativity, and connection to so many in our neighborhood, and I am proud of the role I played in creating them.

While I’ve given the Stewards the space to lead in recent years, I’ve stayed active in showing my love and dedication to Brust Park. Through social media and smaller community efforts, I’ve continued to share its beauty and remind others of the value this green space adds to our lives.

Now, with the absence of an active stewardship group, the risk of neglect is real. Brust Park deserves to be cared for and celebrated, not left to weeds and debris. That’s why I’ve reached out to The Partnership for Parks and other organizations to begin the process of forming a new Friends of Brust Park group.

This new group will aim to fill the gap left by the Stewards and ensure the park continues to thrive as a clean, safe, and welcoming space for everyone. I am committed to this effort, but I cannot do it alone—I will need your help!

Stay tuned for updates on how to get involved and help shape the future of Brust Park. In the meantime, you can visit brustpark.org to learn more, connect with me, and show your support.

Let’s work together to protect and enhance this special green space for future generations. Our community deserves a park that reflects the care and love we have for one another.

Thank you for being part of this journey. 💚🌳
